Curriculum Intent

At Wixams Academy, we are committed to providing a rich and inclusive musical experience for all students, both within the curriculum and through a growing programme of extra-curricular opportunities. Our aim is to nurture confident, creative, and expressive young musicians by placing performance, imagination, and excellence at the heart of our provision.

Through an engaging and practical curriculum, students are encouraged to explore and develop their musical identity while becoming curious about a wide variety of musical styles, including those less familiar to them. They will gain an appreciation of significant composers and performers from a broad spectrum of genres, traditions, and cultures—both within the Western classical tradition and from across the wider world.

Our approach to performance is fully inclusive: we strive to challenge and stretch our most able students while also providing clear structure, support, and encouragement for those who may find music more difficult. In doing so, we aim to boost self-esteem and foster a lifelong enjoyment of the subject.

Beyond the classroom, we are committed to growing a vibrant extra-curricular music culture. These opportunities will reflect and celebrate students' diverse interests and allow them to further develop their skills, collaborate with others, and enjoy music-making in a wider context.
